George Tharp is a Junior in the College for Public Health and Social Justice pursuing a B.S. in Biostatistics with minors in Women's and Gender Studies, African American Studies, and English. George has been involved with the Student Government Association since 2015 and in that time has led many initiatives focused on equity and justice (including, but not limited to: the formation of the SGA committee on Sustainability; the suspension and reclamation of the Oath of Inclusion; the founding of a student group focusing on the empowerment of survivors of sexual assault as well as challenging sexual violence in its entirety; the annual revision of the Saint Louis University Sexual Misconduct Policy; the empowerment of student voices in petitions to recognize Saint Louis University as a Sanctuary Campus; the ongoing conversations surrounding the improvement of working conditions for DineSLU employees; and the initiative to more fully support the voices of all students).

In their time at Saint Louis University, George has been a part of Housing and Residence Life and Student Involvement (HRLSI), the Diversity Leadership Cabinet, the Fraternity Council, Army ROTC, Rainbow Alliance, Free to {Be}, the Society for African American Studies, the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, and has been involved in on-campus activism. 

George plans on utilizing existing structures to increase the rights of members within the Saint Louis University Community, building on current frameworks to empower those who feel unheard, improving accessibility to resources provided by Saint Louis University for all members of the Saint Louis University Community, and leading honest dialogue to ensure not only ‘diversity and inclusion’ but equity and justice.
